You have a wealth of information at your fingertips, in your computer somewhere (or laptop, or server) you will have a list of clients and customers that ‘used’ to buy from you. It may have slipped past you as more customers and clients come on board and those old clients fade into the background. Its like driving a lorry with the back doors open; you get new business on board, but are loosing valuable customers off the back. Suddenly you remember that one great client that hasn’t bought from you recently, do you shrug it off (you are more than busy) or do you investigate?

Yes of course you investigate! (You would’ve been surprised if I said ‘forget about ‘em!’ in a GodFather style wouldn’t you). How much does it cost to get new business in the door, whether you are a B2C, or B2B there are real cost implications to gaining new business, costs that should not be ignored. Of course these costs are offset once the business starts rolling in and the products are flying off the shelves, but what about those customers who no longer buy from you? Those that cost hours in the first place.

All it takes is a list of contact names and phone numbers, and an afternoon of picking up the phone. Find out why they have stopped using you, why they changed to that competitor and if you can win them back. Of course there will always be natural wastage as customers no longer need what you are selling, however those ideal customers, those that you rejoiced over when they placed their first order, they need saving.

Of course the phone isn’t for everyone, and some clients are too nice to say they had a bad experience with your service to your face (or ear as it may be), we are British after all! This is where an independent company can help out, can get you the honest answers to the questions you need, and even bring that business back through your door whilst improving your processes and service. Courageous enough to give it a try?
